Understanding Europe Project

Understanding Europe is the name for EU Crash Courses offered by European Youth Parliament’s umbrella organisation, the Schwarzkopf Foundation Young Europe in Germany since 2009. The EU-Crash Course serves to provide space for questions of pupils concerning the context of European integration and to impart and visualize basic knowledge about European politics. As Ukraine has signed the political part of the Association Agreement, we feel the necessity to increase the role of high school students in the EU integration process of Ukraine by raising awareness on EU basics.

Number of participants: 300 participants (20 per training event)

Training events

Looking to develop the potential EYP Ukraine’ members, from November 2016 onwards we organise different training events, in order to invest in the development of youth from all over Ukraine, strengthen the capacity of EYP Ukraine and encourage our members to be active citizens.

Before Regional Sessions of EYP Ukraine, we plan to organise 4 EYP Days in different regions. Regional Sessions and the National Selection Conference will be followed by 4 Newcomers’ Weekends. They will bring together new members of the Organisation to further brief them about EYP International and EYP Ukraine. Involving a social aspect, the Newcomers’ Weekends will introduce individuals to the departments, the functionings of the organisation and shed some light on the next steps they can take within the organisation.

We will also host two Board training events, which are aimed at developing a common vision of the organisation’s development in the upcoming year and until 2025. During this strategic sessions we will put our heads together and discuss the future of our organisation from a long-term perspective.

Following the Board training event, we will organise Department Weekends where all of the members of 5 departments (Finance, Human Resource, Public Relations, Regional Development and International Activities) will get to know each other and sit together to think about the strategies for each department separately and in synergy with other departments.

Moreover, we aim to develop the capacity of our members in different fields, such as media and communications, team management and chairing skills. We will organise a training event for Chairpersons and Media Team members that will gather young people from all over Ukraine and Europe in order to develop their skills in the aforementioned fields and add to the academic excellence of Ukrainians who will represent the country on an international level throughout the year.

In December, we will hold a training event for Project Managers, where they will encounter all necessary skills and knowledge for the organising process. Also, they will be introduced to a Project Coordinator who will be supervising all of the projects and will act as a first contact to approach while organising.

In order to bring together EYP Ukraine alumni who have already had a chance to get acquainted with the organisation, we will hold Alumni Weekend in December 2017. The event will gather young people who are eager to contribute to the capacity building of EYP Ukraine and will serve as a networking platform.

The organisation of the European Youth Parliament exists all over Europe, with the great help and support of teachers. EYP Ukraine also aims to have a close cooperation with schools and teachers, hence we will hold EYP4T (EYP for Teachers) training event where will present our current projects, share our visions on future cooperation, as well as a draft plan of our actions for the upcoming year.

Furthermore, EYP Ukraine is a transparent and democratic entity and we keep the tradition of 4 General Assemblies that take place every season throughout the year. This type of event serves as a platform for the board to report on the recent activities of the organisation, as well as to meet in person EYP Ukraine members and hear first-hand feedback.

Duration: 30 days (2 days per training, 15 training events throughout the year)

Number of participants: 600 (40 per training event)
